London Atelier is joining Architect in the House Scheme again!

We are very happy to be part of this scheme this year again - we can make it easy for home owners to start their journey to a better home. And in turn, we hope they’ll help families facing homelessness by making a donation to Shelter. To find out more please visit: http://www.architectinthehouse.org.uk/ http://www.shelter.org.uk/

The creation of the fully glazed façade in the light-well area at lower ground floor is taking shape ...

These beams are holding up four and a half storey of Victorian Building to enable the new layout of the flat.

Unusual incident: windows crossing the street ...

Till Nowak eye-witnessed this incident ... this could happen to any ugly structure - beware!

A house of light becomes The House of Light

Private Residence in Islington

LA has been commissioned to remodel this private residence in Islington. Please have a look at our studies below in an earlier post to this exciting project. The scheme has evolved into an interesting proposal of a mixture of materials blending the new extension into the existing Victorian fabric and neighbouring buildings.

A house of light

Private Residence in Islington

We have been appointed to submit a pre-planning application for the potential refurbishment and extension at a 2 bedroomed residence in the Barnsbury Conservation Area in Islington. These are the existing elevations of the house ...

The house was refurbished in the 1980's and has some nice post-modern alterations internally including large south facing rooflights but externally, the flat roof extensions are letting in quite a bit of moisture so there is some work that really needs to be done to these areas. Our client is interested to see the possibilities for extending the brief to include an extension to bedrooms above and improvements to their living spaces on the ground floor.

The yellow areas in the massing studies below show a few of the possibilities for altering the ground floor spaces, extending the house to the rear and extending upwards.

Images above from top to bottom :

1. The Existing house. 2. Single storey extension. 3. 1st floor Bedroom Extension with Terrace. 4. A 3rd floor Rooftop Study. 5. A complete reworking of the house refurbishment throughout & creating 2 new double bedrooms & a study.

We are currently working up some sketch schemes for the house and are looking forward to working closely with our client to produce an innovative design that is both beautiful and utilises all of the space available, whilst respecting the restraints of this prominent Conservation Area and being adjoined to next door's Grade ii listed terrace.

Fashion Shop

We've been commissioned to design a new fashion store. Have a look at our early designs below. The design is based on clothing designs - a the concept of two asymmetrical halves. We took this as inspiration and applied it to our design along with the idea of dressmaking patterns that fold to create surfaces, shelves and lighting recesses.

Here's our logo design for Valli Colpani's design consultancy label.

Dhow House

London Atelier have recently been commissioned to design a holiday house on the island of Lamu in Kenya. Here are some of our initial sketches looking at the views and interior courtyards.

InMidTown Habitats Competition

Here is our entry for the InMidTown Habitats Competition. Our proposal looked at creating a landscape from interconnecting beehives and planters. We also proposed an idea for a collection of bird houses formed from separate octraderons connected together to wrap around trees or along walls.

Portobello Arcade

We are very pleased to have recently received planning permission to transform the shop fronts, signage and lighting for our project at the Portobello Arcade.

Tite Street Colours

Our original colour palette inspired by tales of Oscar Wilde. Below a photo of choosing colours on site. Painted on the board are a toned down iterations of our original scheme. Choosing shades of grey!

Tite Street - Revealing Layers of the Past

Our Tite Street project is located in a former home of Oscar Wilde. Unfortunately no original copies of his manuscripts were found, but nonetheless it was very exciting to strip back all the later internal addition to reveal all the wonderful details and spaces.
